Brown Eyed Boy

Just a couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph this little guy who is now a big 18 months old! It was a drizzly day so I was unsure about how this session would go but his mom told me that he's a pretty laid back little boy and the sprinkles shouldn't be a problem. Boy was she right! He was a gem and I enjoyed every minute of working on these photos. I think we have a child model on our hands. Look out Gap!

The Beautiful Taylor Cole, a soon to be senior at Alma High School, represented Molly Bea Photography for the 2010/2011 school year. Hard to believe that only a year ago her sister Jaycee (the now reigning Queen of Scots) started my business as my first ever representative. I knew that I would have to snatch Taylor right up this year too. Unfortunately, this is the baby of the Cole's crew so we made sure we did it right. It was a gloomy day on this day, but Taylor's inside and out beauty shined through 100%. A photographer's delight. :-) Enjoy a few of the images from her session.

Representing Molly Bea Photography for Mt Pleasant High School this year is the fabulous Molly MacGillivray. Reps get their pictures taken a little earlier than the rest of their classmates so the weather isn't always the grandest. Freezing perhaps. Remember in March when it was so gorgeous for like two weeks?? Yeah, we missed that and got a very cold day. No matter for this gal. I just told her that this is what the models deal with all the time. And she was just that, a model. Despite the temps, it was a great day with you Molly Mac. You represented well, very well. ;-)

A couple months ago I had the opportunity to capture the love of this gorgeous couple. My husband got some kisses after this shoot. ;-) It was kinda like watching a romantic comedy. It just takes you back to how you felt when the love was fresh, ya know? Am I giving to much information right now? Ok, maybe. But it was cute, they were hot, I loved photographing them, I wish them years of happiness, and I love my husband. :-) And I think I might go kiss him right now. Goodbye.

This lovely senior wanted to split her senior session up a bit. The first half was towards the end of summer and this one was a couple months ago. We all know how bad I've been about posting. ;-) I blame it entirely on my first trimester. It knocked me right out. Anyway, enough about that. The blue eyes, the snow, the look. It just all worked for her and here are a few of my personal favorites from this shoot.

Sweet New Baby

I photographed this darling two week old little girl a few weeks ago at her nearby home. I always love going into homes for shoots because I feel like I can really capture a family or child in their element. Well, one thing you can always count on with newborns is for them to sleep peacefully for you, right? Um wrong. I was with this family for three hours and she did not sleep a wink. No problem little one, you just wanted to be a part of all the action! I hope these photos melt your heart as they did mine. I needed a little heart melting as my unexpected third will be coming into our lives this year. :-)

It was cold, she was cute, and I was fast. I have to say, I was pretty excited when I saw this blue eyed darling. Having a three your old beauty myself with blue eyes, I knew we were in for some sweet pix....but let's be honest here, she's two and she's in charge of whether she wants to be cute or not. Good thing moms know the right tricks. No problem sweet thing. You're a doll!

This session took me back to my engagement session. Just the excitement of what was to come. The wonder of it all. I love the documentation of the promises to be made. I think I went home after this session and looked at our engagement session pictures. I still love them. It's possible that I love them even more than our wedding pictures. It was just us being us. Hopefully I captured that a bit with this lovely couple as well. Thanks for sticking it out through the cold. You all are a beautiful couple and I wish you all many years of God's richest blessings.

This was a fun shoot in a local park. Sometimes the photographer doesn't know what kind of personalities he/she will be up against for a shoot. This one made my job easy. Coat on. No, coat off! Between not having a newborn for nearly two years and having few baby shoots I have forgotten how temperamental these little sweet things are. Nurse. Change. Rock. Try. Fail. Rock. Nurse. Rock. Change. Try. Fail. Finally. Satisfied. Click. Click. Click. Three hours later we had ourselves some pictures that bring a smile to mommies face. And I sigh. :-)

Friends of mine are about to celebrate Christmas in a whole new way this year. They have a sweet little girl that I've had the priveledge of photographing a few times over the past several months. I'm certain that she will be Bode's girlfriend because he simply can't stop kissing her! jk - we won't move that fast. Next year will be double the fun for this family when baby brother comes into this wonderful home. Love you guys. God is certainly smiling on you all. :-)

I love how babies have there thing that brings them great comfort to get through their tough life. This little presh has two things. Her fingers and her ear. I love how this picture captures the suck and tug so beautifully.

I tell my kids all the time that I want to kiss their faces off. I think these parents might feel the same way from time to time.....or maybe I'm just crazy. ;-)

I had the great opportunity to photograph this delightful family a couple weeks ago. She warned prior to the session that her kids were going to be horrible and very difficult to photograph, yada yada yada. I'm pretty sure every mom so far has said the same thing. What a surprise for me when they each did exactly what I wanted them to do. I think there may have been some parental bribery involved but who cares, right?? It worked like a charm and some sweet personality was captured. Go Mom!

Oh the weather outside is frightful! Time for scarves and hats, my favorite things! I've loved having a few more seniors this fall season. It's brought a new look to my photography that I have just loved. This gorgeous young lady has looks to kill. Dark hair, light eyes. Lovely. And - You were a trooper too! It was so cold on this day and most of the session was done without a coat. I had to keep telling her, "You'll thank me later." and "Anything for a great pic, right?" Well, I loved this session and I hope you do too.

Loving a Michigan Fall

It has just been a beautiful fall to photograph. I don't remember last year being like this. I think we went straight from summer to winter and skipped fall altogether. Anyway, on this day I had the best time with this handsome family and a beautiful landscape to work with. The two boys were just a hoot as I chased them with my camera. The little one reminded me so much of my youngest as he wanted to be on the go the whole time. What a grand opportunity to capture this fun stage in the lives of this young family. I left this shoot feeling blessed to be doing something I love, blessed to have two little fun personalities of my own, and blessed to observe and capture as best as I could, God's creation.

She and Mike are great friends of ours who lived here a few years back and when she left neither one of us knew of the business world that we would be entering together in separate states. They came back last weekend for a visit and of course for a trade off in Christmas family photos. These are some of the shots I got of their beautiful bunch. It just warmed my heart right up, despite the chill in the air, to photograph this loving couple and their family a couple weeks ago. I saw something so very sweet in the interaction between Mom and Dad. You could see a true friendship, there were no inhibitions, lots of love, and sensitivity between the two of them. I have a feeling that these images will be a treasure for this family for many years to come.

It is a gorgeous time of year in Michigan right now. The leaves are all turning and the rich, warm color is everywhere. I need to take as many pictures as possible right now so that when April comes and it is still snowing, I can look back and remember why I like this state so much. It was a beautiful day to capture this beautiful family. A gorgeous mom with the 4 handsome men in her life. They recently moved to their new home so I was able to capture the personality of their family among the landscape of their beloved home. It was quite difficult for me to narrow this post down. With such a beautiful property, I had more than enough from which to choose. My hope is that these 2009 fall pictures are treasured for many years to come.

The Family Farm

I drove out to this farm recently to shoot some family pictures. I love to go out to the homes of my clients and photograph them in their territory. The options for backdrops here were endless as I walked around the old barn trying to capture some vision for what I wanted to do. Nothing makes a photographer smile more than an old building/barn and a beautiful setting sun along a field of farmland.

The dog was jealous of all this attention and insisted that he be a part of the family portraits as well. I love the timeless feel of this photograph.

This young man is a senior this year and refused to depart from his beloved hat for a senior portrait. I didn't mind. The hat stayed.

And with a tip of the hat, he says, "Thank you." :-)

And his brother agreed. The hat must stay.

I say it suits him.

A couple weeks back was a big wedding weekend for me. I was honored to second shoot with my rock star sister in law of smapix.com for her sister's wedding in GR on friday night and then shoot my very first solo wedding the following day here in town. It was a little bit of both today. I had the pleasure of photographing a set of twins today. A boy AND a girl. What fun. Distant Friends

On a recent trip to CO with YFC, I got a chance to hang for a few hours with my good friend, Erika and her lovely family. Erika and I met, of all places, in Macedonia when I taught there for a year back in umm....2003 I think. She came with a different group and God put us in the same apartment together in downtown, Skopje. We were in each other's weddings within two years of coming back to the states and remained close friends since, even though there are a few states between us. It was so great to see her and so great to capture the family sweetness.

I just got home from this amazing session and my babies are napping so I decided to post a few right away. Can you see why I was excited? Right here in Central Michigan folks - we got the prettiest girls around. Miss K is one more gorgeous girl in town and I had so much fun capturing her beauty and personality.

Miss K brought her close friend with her for today's session. Her friend just graduated and Lord only knows that had I been in business last year, I would have kidnapped her right off the street so I could take her pictures too. :-) It was only right to snap a few of the friends before the next school year. 18 Months and On the Go Go Go!

I've wanted to photograph this little boy for quite some time. He doesn't know it yet but he is going to be good buddies with my Bo one day. This young man was to be born within a day of Bo's due date but he was ready to come two weeks early. Our two sons are 18 months now and it's so fun to see their personalities exploding! A Reason To Celebrate

Over a week ago I had the privilege of documenting a historic moment. It was the 80th Birthday/60th wedding anniversary celebration of a lovely couple. Their children planned a big surprise bash at their home and it was a surprise like none other. What a thrill to be a part of such a memorable occasion.

I began my evening at the farm looking through the display of pictures from the past. Their wedding, family portraits, black and whites of them in their bathing suits on the lake back in their 20's, new babies in their arms....and now here they are 60 years later with the people they love the most surrounding them. What a blessing! I imagined Wes and I at our 60th anniversary party. That would be 2065. I think that would make me 88 and Wes a young 86. A bit hard to imagine isn't it? But what a journey love takes you on.

I begin this post with a few of the Bride and Groom at their home that they love so much.

Sadie had to be a part of the senior session hoopla too! So, we met at the park today and grabbed a few with sweet Sadie. Most of you that know me know that I am not in anyway an animal lover, but I certainly could appreciate the love that these gals had for their pup.

Three's a Crowd

I traveled back to my home town of Findlay, Ohio this past weekend. Not only did I get a chance to hang out with old, excuse me, young high school friends, but I got to capture some of their beautiful families as well. This was the first of the families. Two boys and now a baby girl. What a beautiful day we had to be outside. Thank you God for the sun! This young man is the oldest of the bunch, and well....he's three.

Full of giggles, the second boy of the family had blue eyes that could just knock ya straight out.

No one could have ever prepared me for what my heart would do when I held my very own baby. This shot reminded me of my first moment with my first girl. This is the new little baby girl of the family and I just love how she looks in her loving mommy's arms.

They certainly had a lot to say today. Soon sister will put in her two sense.

A Little Bit of Sweetness

My next family of the weekend had two sweet girls with blonde hair, blue eyes, and big orange suckers! This kept them pretty happy for our session and made for some pretty "sweet" shots as well. This first doll face was pretty busy and had her own agenda for the day but we managed to keep her still for a few seconds to capture her joy.

The older of the two certainly loves her Daddy. My best shots of her were when she was by her dad's side. I love it.

I love bare feet. I don't think I wore shoes most of my childhood. Loved catching the feet as the girls were busy with their treats.

Pure joy. You can just feel the joy that these girls bring their parents everyday.....or most days at least.

The day of Jaycee's senior session her mother asked me if I'd would take a few pictures of Jaycee on prom night as well. Of course! Well, tonight was the night and her gorgeous sister who is just a year younger came and got a few shots in. It was so fun capturing these gals on their special night with their very own personalities.

This dress was beautiful front to back.

The girl knows I like a good prop so she brought her hand made mask for the evening.

Can this girl smile or what! I want her teeth! LOVED her strapless dress and goldie locks. Perfect.

And she's no doubt a blast to be around.

What a beautiful day and a beautiful girl. Amanda is one of those gals that everyone loves to be around. Now she warned me that there was no way she could do a serious pose. Turns out, Amanda doesn't know what she's talking about. She was a pro! She nailed every pose with ease. Way to go girl! You've got a great smile AND a great "serious" look too.

Paige and I were hanging out today after school and she mentioned that she had a French project due in a couple of days. They were doing a sort of fashion project where they had to choose a theme, then cut out five different pictures of outfits that match that particular theme and then of course write out in French each outfits description. She initially chose a wedding theme but I thought it would be fun if she was the model for these pictures. She was all for it. She switched to a "summer" theme and we went to work on this lovely rainy day here in Michigan. I absolutely love how the pictures turned out and thought I'd share a few with you all.

My cousin is graduating this year and I offered to make an invitation from one of the pictures I took of her last summer. She's such a beauty, isn't she? But, just so there is no confusion and people showing up on the wrong date, this is not the final copy of the invite - the date and times are wrong. If you're invited, you'll get it in the mail. :-)

Sarah and I are friends from church and I can tell you that this gal is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. I'd been wanting to photograph her for a while but I wanted to wait until it was a little warmer. Let's be honest friends. We're in Michigan - we could be waiting a while. She nearly froze. Despite the weather conditions, however, she was a natural. Thanks for making me look good Sarah!

From the time I was a young teen you could always find me with a camera in hand and I have many shoe boxes to prove this point. I admit now that there was not much artistic value to my work at this time but there was certainly a deep appreciation for all things photography.

My name is Molly Wickes, and I, alongside my wonderful husband, Wes are currently raising our two little ones Vivian and Bo. Although, my degree is in education and I've spent many years working with young people, it is my children that have brought me back to the love of photography. There is nothing like capturing those silly faces, her innocent grin, or his furrowed brow that lets me know that he just isn't too happy with life at the moment. I have treasured these images and it's these expressions that my philosophy of photography is now based.

My goal is to capture the expressions that define an individual or family. It is these looks that your friends and family love about you! Gone are the days of freezing, straightening, yelling, saying "cheese" and all the other things that make a photo session completely inauthentic and miserable for most involved. Your session fee is due at the time of your session and includes up to 3 people, $10 per person thereafter. Sessions are shot in natural light and in some cases, indoors. Inquire for details. The session fee does not include a print credit. It covers the time and talent of the artist only.
